Trying out Mod Podge clay

I am really loving the Rangoli boxes that I have been doing. I use a mix of acrylic gel, rangoli and paint for that. I was in search of a quicker alternative to my homemade paste. I found this particular ready to use Mod Podge clay that comes in a pre packed baggie. The package includes nozzles for decorations.

I did not want a thick design so I decided to put some paste in a little ziploc and cut off a tiny corner to do my design. Here is my first try with the Mod Podge clay. It is a small design on a tiny clay planter.

With some leftover paste in the ziploc bag, I put down a small design on a paper and will make a card from it sometime soon.

Rangoli box

Made this very Indian looking box for a friend today.  I painted a wooden box with acrylic paint and then added a rangoli design on the top with a pasty mixture of acrylic get and rangoli (white soft sand).

Painting abstracts

I attended an abstract watercolor class on July 13, 2014 by Robert Drovak.  Here are a few pices done in the class

This one was done using a mouth atomizer with some crayon resist and a leaf for stencil.

The one of the right was an exercise was to study color schemes and shapes.

These cards were cut out from a larger painting. For this exercise I painted wet on wet with vivid colors. Added some color and scratches with the edge of a credit card. In the workshop we were asked to find smaller compositions. Each small painting was then finished with a few paint strokes done with a skewer dipped in paint and some toothbrush srpay.

The abstract above was done with a flat hake brush by throwing in paint, wet on dry. some edges weer then softened and some were left untouched.

This one was done by painting on one side and the folding paper to get the symmetric pattern.

The one on the left was the most interesting of the lot. I closed my eyes and picked up my brush. I had no idea what color I was loading the brush with or what stroke I was making! It was all touch and feel....very fun to do, and something that I wouldn't have come up with my eyes open!

This one was done by sprinkling salt onto very wet paint.

Mat cutter

Today my very first Dexter Mat cutting tool arrived!
Tried out some bevel cuts and straight cuts on a foam board. This mat cutter is advertised as a freehand cutting tool too, so I tried a couple of curvy shapes. My hand definitely needs some practice guiding the cutter. Overall, I like it!

Shadow box window

I have been creating some big or small (mostly small) artwork everyday, just dallying on recording it in my blog :)

Well this is what I did during the past two days.
I had painted this window in watercolor a few years ago. It had a background, but I never liked it. Last night, I cut out the background with an exacto knife!
Today, I darkened the shadows on the window and created a wet on wet watercolor background on a separate paper. Then I put it together in a box frame to give some dimension. The box frame I had was much larger than the window, so I gave it some tiny velvet curtains. My hubby did suggest curtains last night, but I wanted a watercolor background! This works for both of us!! Now I have to find a place for today's work.

Art Everyday!

I am writing this blog as my 'art everyday' logbook. My husband urged me to create something everyday -be it a small art and craft project, a card, a simple drawing or a big painting. Without many further words, here's what I did today......

These are envelopes painted with watercolors.
